Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Samuel Taylor Coleridge, 1772-1834, English poet.

Along with William Wordsworth, with whom he published the Lyrical Ballads in 1798, Coleridge has traditionally been considered one of the seminal figures in the history of Romanticism.

Among his major poems are The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Christabel, Dejection: An Ode, and Kubla Khan. Coleridge is also well known for his criticism: the Biographia Literaria (1817) and his popular lectures on Shakespeare.
