The modules found in "The Basics" training category describe the fundamental protocols, premises, and components of the Internet and the networking community, and are intended as an introduction to the Internet for new users. The topics covered include, but are not limited to, basic descriptions of TCP/IP; the Domain Name System, IP addresses, remote login, file transfer, electronic mail and discussion lists, network news, gopher, WAIS, the web, and cultural aspects such as netiquette and freenets. Each of the Basics training modules have been developed with a specific, introductory-level question in mind, which they attempt to answer as substantively as possible in a clear and concise manner. Each of "The Basics" modules are available as compressed PowerPoint files which can be downloaded via anonymous ftp. These topics include, but are not limited to, different mail programs, mailing lists, Multi-purpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME), etc. Each of the training modules have been developed with a specific question in mind on the subject of email, which they attempt to answer as substantively as possible in a clear and concise manner. Each of the "Electronic Mail" modules are available as compressed PowerPoint files which can be downloaded via anonymous ftp. These topics include, but are not limited to, directories, virtual libraries, robots and other web-based search engines, identification tools such as finger and Netfind, etc. Each of the training modules have been developed with a specific question in mind on the subject of finding information on the Internet, in response they attempt to describe the resources and technology identified in the question as substantively as possible in a clear and concise manner. Each of the "Indexing and Search Services" modules are available as compressed PowerPoint files which can be downloaded via anonymous ftp. The index-search directory also contains a "table-of-contents.txt" file, which describes each PowerPoint module that is available in the "Indexing and Search Services" category. Each of the Technology training modules have been developed in answer to a specific technology-related question, which they attempt to answer as substantively as possible in a clear and concise manner. Each of the "Technology" modules are available as compressed PowerPoint files which can be downloaded via anonymous ftp. These topics include, but are not limited to, HTTP, HTML, SGML, browsers, crawlers, style guides, image maps, forms, CGI, JAVA, etc. Each of the training modules have been developed with a specific web-related question in mind, which they attempt to answer as substantively as possible in a clear and concise manner.
